Army ROTC
The Army ROTC is a great way to start the transition from civilian/enlisted soldier to Army officer. The learning community is designed to immerse students into an environment that promotes team building and a sense of belonging within the AROTC program. MS1, freshmen will take a two credit hour class with a lab and also participate in Physical Readiness Training (PES 114) which meets three days a week at 6 AM. Having a roommate who also attends this early class is a great advantage of the learning community. No worries about waking your roommate or them keeping you up late because they will be on the same class schedule. Along with the standard classes, students are offered access to clubs such as Tactics Club (Army maneuver tactic), Color Guard, Rifle/Pistol Club, and Pathfinders Club (Cross Fit). Student will also have opportunities to earn foreign military badges such as the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge and Norwegian Foot March badge which are authorized by the department of the Army for wear on the Army Service Uniform.
Eligibility
- First-time beginning students admitted to any college/school/major
- U.S. Citizen or pursuing U.S. Citizenship status
- First-year Army ROTC Students (scholarship or non-scholarship)
Residential Component
Incoming 4-year National Scholarship and 3-year AD scholarship winners:
- Required. The location of learning community housing will be determined based on the incoming size and needs of the learning community.
- A signed housing contract is required to apply to this learning community. Once a housing contract is completed, you will indicate your learning community housing preference within the learning community application. Applications received by the priority deadline will be considered first.
- If you want to be placed with a preferred roommate and be admitted to a learning community with a required residential component, both you and your roommate must apply (and be accepted) to the same learning community. Students admitted to learning communities with a required residential component cannot be paired with students admitted to learning communities with an optional residential component.

- Completing a housing contract is a separate process from applying to a learning community. If you have questions about housing, contact University Residences (https://www.housing.purdue.edu/) at housing@purdue.edu.

Every fee eligible student involved with a learning community (LC) at Purdue will be assessed the $200 LC fee to their university account. These funds support activities and travel, signature LC events, housing assignments and/or course registration and instructor stipends.
Events and Activities Included:
- Welcome BBQ
- Tryouts for Iron Platoon (participates in Ranger Challenge events)
- Field exercises (one fall and one spring semesters)
- Color Guard/Drill Team service projects
- Tactics Club with a survival learning weekend and paintballing)
- Pathfinders Club (Cross fit workouts with other cadets supervised by Level 1 instructor)
- Rifle and Pistol Club (marksmanship classes)
- Intramurals
- Foreign Army badge earning opportunities
- Summer internships with government agencies
- Summer training at Fort Knox for Basic and Advanced Camps
- Army School possibilities (Airborne and Air Assault)
